Frequently Asked Questions!

Q: Will joining an organization affect my performance in school?

A: No, while joining a sorority is a big responsibility and time commitment we all recognize that school comes first. As long as you are open with your chapter officers about your school work and pre-plan accordingly you should not have a problem balancing the two!

Q: Will I get hazed?

A: No! Absolutely Not! Seton Hall and CPC have a zero tolerance policy for hazing. If you have any concerns or feel you or your friends are a victim of hazing please reach out to Samantha DeMarse IMMEDIATELY. (Samantha.DeMarse@shu.edu)

Q: My best friend is in a sorority, does this mean I will get into it as well?

A: We can not say you will or will not get a bid to an organization based on your friends, because it is based on a matching software. If your friend is ensuring that you will get a bid this is called bid promising and is absolutely against our recruitment rules. The system matches based on an individual potential new members preferences and a chapters preferences so there is no way for any one individual to control the bid process.

Q: Does being an upperclassman affect my ability to join?

A: Any Seton Hall student in good standing is eligible to join an organization regardless of race, religion, or age. Currently our organizations by-laws and Unanimous Agreements do limit the gender of whom can join, should you have any questions about this please contact Michael Davis.

Q: Once I join a sorority can I leave if I decide it is not for me?

A: Yes, there is a six week new member process during which any new member can decide to leave the process and enter recruitment the next year however after initiation it becomes harder to reverse your decision. Each organization has its own disaffiliation process in place should you decide to leave after initiation but you will not be eligible to join another sorority if you decide to disaffiliate.

Q: Does it cost money to join?

A: Yes, Each organization has a different dues structure that ranges depending on what is included. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to that specific organizations treasurer or VP of Finance to learn more or click here.
